“You would be great in real estate.” One sentence. A sentence that would change Melissa Farrow’s life and direct her destiny.
The call to real estate came because this mother of two wanted time to be with her kids.
“I wanted to go to my kids’ activities, take them to school, and pick them up,” she candidly comments. “I didn’t want to be stuck in an office from 9-5.” When one of her mother’s friends, a broker, told her that she would make a great real estate agent, she listened.
“I could be my own boss,” she thought to herself. If her kids were sick, she didn’t have to worry. Most importantly, “it fit the lifestyle that I wanted,” she says.
In 2016, she earned her real estate license. A stay-at-home mother prior to that, Melissa had earned her Marketing Degree from Oklahoma State University. She then lived in Dallas and Los Angeles before being home full-time with her kids. After getting divorced and her kids going to school, she knew she needed a new purpose and passion. Real estate was her answer.
Starting at Coldwell Banker in Norman, she then went to Metro First Realty. She then tried eXp Realty, only to find that her heart was truly happy at Salt Real Estate. “I had my best years in real estate there,” she smiles. She became a Broker Associate in January 2025.
Real estate was perfect for family time, especially with husband Chuck (whom she affectionately refers to her as husband 2.0), their three kids, and three dogs (a black German Shepherd, a giant Schnauzer, and a yellow Lab).
“My time is filled up with work and taking kids to and from sporting activities,” she laughs. “I’m a free Uber for them.”
Built to Create
In the midst of growing her real estate business, Melissa also became an inventor.
She founded Mom Aid, a company born from necessity and firsthand experience in motherhood. Her first product, a disposable nursing pad, wasn’t rushed to market. Instead, she did it the hard way: securing a patent first, trademarking everything, and methodically building the foundation so she could talk freely and protect what she created.
The timeline has been long and deliberate. Two versions of a nipple ointment are launching in April, a diaper cream in May, and the nursing pads are slated for release in August. Real estate funded the dream. Over the last two years, which were her strongest in the industry, Melissa was able to self-fund the company and bring it to life without outside pressure. Her drive and determination are admirable in helping other mothers.
How does she do it all?
Let’s just say it’s a rare balance, and one she doesn’t take lightly. Real estate pays the bills, fuels her creativity, and coexists seamlessly with her entrepreneurial drive. She admits there’s a bittersweet feeling knowing that one day real estate may no longer be her primary focus. Why? She genuinely loves it and it shows with her enthusiasm.
Relationships Over Transactions
Melissa’s business thrives on visibility, authenticity, and connection. “I don’t believe in being a secret agent,” she laughs. People know what she does, not because she pushes it, but because she lives it out loud. She is unapologetically transparent and authentic. It pays off.
Her largest transaction to date—a $3.2 million deal—came not from a cold lead, but from going to the gym. One casual conversation led to a social media connection. Trust built quietly over time over Instagram. When the opportunity arose and an Oklahoma lake property headed to auction, Melissa was the one they called.
Why? They trusted her. Relationships are worth their weight in gold in real estate.
“You don’t have to be pushy,” she points out. “Just let people know you are a real estate agent. Tell them, ‘If you have any questions, let me know.’ You never know who is going to buy a big chunk of land or a big old house.”
Melissa works closely with OU Medical, assisting incoming executives, including CNOs, administrators, and leadership hires who are relocating to the area. She gives city tours, walks them through neighborhoods, proximity to the hospital, and lifestyle considerations. “Some want to see houses, some just want to drive around and understand the city,” she says. “I enjoy every part of it.”
Faith First, Always
At the center of everything Melissa builds is her faith.
She is open about what changed her business and her life. “Once I turned my focus to God, put Him first, and served His kingdom and not focused on worldly things, my business really started to grow,” she comments. Giving 10 percent (or more) of her gross income was transformational.
One verse anchors her mindset, “You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast because they trust in you” (Isaiah 26:3, NIV).
Melissa believes peace and success aren’t separate pursuits. When she committed to tithing consistently and shifted her focus away from outcomes and toward obedience, her business grew steadily and sustainably.
Her weeks include church involvement, community engagement, workouts that serve as both mental and emotional release, and an 11 a.m. CST Bible study she prioritizes without apology. Her faith isn’t performative. It’s foundational.
Oklahoma, Through and Through
Born and raised in Oklahoma, Melissa is a self-described country girl at heart. She’s the middle child with an older sister and younger brother, fiercely competitive, and deeply rooted.
Melissa isn’t about chasing titles or flashy wins. It’s about alignment. Faith. Family. Visibility. Work ethic. And trusting that when you build with purpose, everything else follows. As Matthew 6:33 says, “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well” (NIV). Melissa is living proof of that fact!
