Stephanie Burger

There are moments that divide life into before and after. For Stephanie Burger, there have been several.
There was the move from Nevada to Oklahoma with hopes of building a new life, only to find herself beginning again less than a year later with two young children. There was the decision years later to marry the man who would become her best friend and partner for nearly three decades. And then, this past March, when she was faced with what no wife wants to face. Her husband, Ken, had suffered a ruptured aorta and didn't survive surgery.
In an instant, everything changed. Yet, if you spend a few minutes with Stephanie, you realize grief is only one chapter of her story, not the story itself.
She is a mother of five, a “GG” to three granddaughters, a daughter helping care for aging parents, and a REALTOR® whose greatest strength isn't negotiating a contract; it's helping people feel safe during one of life's biggest decisions. After everything she's experienced, Stephanie understands something that can't be taught in a licensing class: People rarely remember every detail of a transaction. They remember how someone made them feel. That truth has become the foundation of her life and business.
Raised by Strength
Stephanie was born in San Leandro, California, but her childhood was shaped in Reno, Nevada, where her mother relocated after a divorce with three children under the age of three. With little more than determination, Stephanie's mother rebuilt her life from scratch, eventually working her way up to become a top executive in Reno's hotel and casino industry. Watching that resilience firsthand left a lasting impression on Stephanie.
"My mom just dug in," she recalls.
Her younger sister would eventually follow in their mother's footsteps, becoming president of the Encore Boston Harbor casino. Stephanie admired their drive, but her own dreams looked different.
"I always thought about becoming a mom," she says. "Those were my goals." Family became the center of every major decision she would make.
Building a Life Around Family
After moving to Oklahoma in 1992, Stephanie eventually met Ken, the man who would become her husband and best friend. Together they built a beautiful life centered around hard work, family, and raising four children. Rather than choosing a traditional career, Stephanie started her own business importing retail store fixtures. Owning the company allowed her to earn an income while being at home during the years that mattered most.
"I wanted to be home with my kids," she says.
Looking back, she wouldn't change that decision for anything. Today, those children have grown into successful adults. One son is an attorney. Another works in a leadership role at OU Medical Center. One daughter works for a private equity technology firm in Montana, while another lives in Chicago with her growing family.
Now, Stephanie's greatest joy comes from being GG. She and Ken had recently begun building a swimming pool with a simple dream in mind: create a place where their family would always want to gather. The timing still feels surreal. Construction had barely begun when Ken unexpectedly passed away on March 10.
"He wasn't able to see the finished product," Stephanie says.
Today, the pool stands as both a joyful gathering place and a reminder of the future they dreamed of creating together. Her family has endured tremendous loss over the years, including the heartbreaking death of Ken's oldest son, Landon, when he was just 18 years old. While the grief will never disappear, Stephanie says she and her family find comfort believing Ken and Landon are together again. "It gives us peace," she says. "Not happiness, but peace."
Finding the Career She Was Meant to Have
Real estate wasn't Stephanie's first career. In fact, she often wishes she had discovered it sooner. After earning her license in late 2018, everything clicked.
"My biggest regret is that I didn't do it a long time ago," she says.
Helping people buy and sell homes is rewarding, but what Stephanie truly loves is helping people navigate one of the biggest decisions of their lives. "I love helping people. I love meeting people. I love the excitement when they find their house," she smiles. It's work that combines everything she values: relationships, trust, patience, and serving others.
The Closing She'll Never Forget
Ask Stephanie about memorable transactions, and one story still makes her laugh. Early in her career, she was helping an excited first-time homebuyer purchase a home. Stephanie had carefully guided the couple through every step of the process, and closing day had arrived.
Everything seemed perfect. Then her client proudly walked into the title company carrying her cash to close...inside a giant water jug. No one had explained that closing funds couldn't simply be handed over in cash.
"We can't do that," Stephanie remembers thinking. Instead of letting panic take over, Stephanie and her client jumped into the car and spent the next hour and a half driving from one convenience store to another, buying money orders because each location had purchase limits.
"It all worked out," Stephanie laughs. "She got her keys."
The experience has become one of her favorite stories, not because everything went according to plan, but because it reminded her that buying a home isn't just paperwork. It's an emotional experience. Sometimes people need someone beside them who's willing to help solve whatever problem comes next.
Relationships First
Like many new agents, Stephanie initially believed success would come naturally once everyone knew she had a real estate license. Reality quickly humbled her. Then another REALTOR® offered advice that changed her outlook.
"This is not transactional. This is relational."
Stephanie embraced that philosophy from the beginning. Rather than focusing on the next commission, she focuses on earning trust. She explains every step. Answers every question. Never assumes clients understand the process simply because she does.
"They just need to be taken care of," she says. That approach has created clients who become lifelong friends. One family she met during her first year has now completed 11 transactions with her. For Stephanie, that's the greatest compliment she could receive.
Looking Forward
Life looks very different than it did just a few months ago. Along with grieving her husband, Stephanie is helping care for her parents while thinking about the future in an entirely new way. Her priorities haven't changed, but her focus has. She wants to build a business that provides security for the people she loves while continuing to serve families with the same kindness that's defined her life.
Helping people find homes isn't simply her profession. It's her way of helping others build the kind of life she's spent decades building herself, one rooted in family, compassion, and relationships that last long after the closing papers are signed. That’s how you build a winning business with repeats and referrals and develop relationships for life. Stay tuned for what Stephanie accomplishes next. With her compassion and connection with others, the sky is the limit.
